Brick Laying & Pavers project in Walled Lake, Michigan by Michigan Outdoor Creations
What we build

Brick Laying & Pavers

Brick and paver patios, walkways, and driveways set on a deep compacted base with polymeric joints and real edge restraint, so the surface stays flat instead of sinking and heaving.

The work

A paver patio is only as good as the base under it. We get called to re-lay a lot of patios that looked great on day one and were sunken, weedy, and heaving by year three, because the crew laid pavers on a few inches of sand and called it a base. Pavers do not fail at the surface. They fail underneath.

Michigan Outdoor Creations builds brick and paver patios, walkways, pool decks, and driveways across Walled Lake and the Lakes Area on a deep, properly compacted aggregate base, with polymeric jointing sand, edge restraint that holds the field tight, and a deliberate pitch so water drains off the surface. The result stays flat and level through the freeze-thaw years.

What's included

Every build, every time.

  • 6 inches or more of properly compacted aggregate base (more for driveways)
  • Brick, concrete paver, and natural flagstone options
  • Polymeric joint sand that locks the field and resists weeds
  • Edge restraint that keeps the perimeter from spreading
  • Surface pitched and graded to drain away from the home
  • Permeable paver systems where drainage demands it
Materials & options

What we build with.

  • Concrete pavers — Unilock, Belgard, and similar lines
  • Clay brick pavers for a traditional look
  • Natural flagstone and bluestone
  • Permeable pavers for driveways and low-lying areas
  • Polymeric jointing sand and steel/composite edge restraint
How we build it

Four steps. The same on every job.

01

Site read

We check grade and drainage and confirm how the surface needs to pitch, then mark the layout and elevations.

02

Scope

Paver line, pattern, border, and a written fixed price. You see samples before we order.

03

Build

Excavate, build and compact the base in lifts, screed, lay the field and borders, set edge restraint, compact, and sweep in polymeric sand.

04

Walkthrough

We review care and joint maintenance, hand over the 10-year workmanship warranty, and confirm drainage.

The thing other contractors skip

Why it matters in Michigan.

Frost heave is what destroys cheap paver jobs in Michigan. Water gets into a thin or poorly compacted base, freezes, expands, and pushes the pavers up unevenly. We dig deep, build the base in compacted lifts, and pitch the surface so water leaves instead of soaking in and freezing under your patio.

Drainage is the discipline behind it, carried over from our sister company, Michigan Drainage Solutions. Where a yard cannot shed water on its own, we integrate permeable pavers or a French drain so the base stays dry and the field stays flat. That is the part other crews skip and the reason ours hold.
