Deck Construction project in Walled Lake, Michigan by Michigan Outdoor Creations
What we build

Deck Construction

Composite, cedar, and hardwood decks framed on footings that go below the frost line, because the part you cannot see is the part that decides whether your deck is still flat in ten winters.

The work

A deck in Michigan lives through forty-degree temperature swings, frost heave, and ten feet of snow load over its lifetime. Most deck failures we get called to fix were never framing problems. They were footing problems. Posts set too shallow, no proper bearing, ledger boards bolted on wrong and pulling away from the house. We film the base layer on every build because that is the take that matters.

Michigan Outdoor Creations builds custom decks across Walled Lake and the Lakes Area on engineered footings poured below the 42-inch frost line, with code-compliant ledger attachment, proper flashing, and hidden fastener systems that leave a clean, screw-free surface. Whether it is a low ground-level platform, a multi-level walkout, or a wraparound off a lakefront home, the structure is built to outlast the house it is attached to.

How we build it

Four steps. The same on every job.

01

Site read

We walk the lot, check grade and drainage around the build zone, and confirm how the deck ties to the house and the yard.

02

Scope

Material selection, layout, levels, rail and lighting choices, and a written scope with a fixed price before anything is dug.

03

Build

Footings below frost, framing to code, flashing and ledger done right, decking and rail installed with hidden fasteners.

04

Walkthrough

We walk the finished deck with you, hand over the warranty, and pass final inspection.

The thing other contractors skip

Why it matters in Michigan.

The single biggest difference between a deck that stays flat and one that racks and twists is footing depth. Michigan's frost line runs to about 42 inches. Set a footing shallower than that and the freeze-thaw cycle will lift it every winter until the deck pulls away from the house. We dig below frost on every footing, no exceptions.

We also grade and drain the soil under and around the deck so water moves away from the structure and the foundation. That drainage discipline comes from our sister company, Michigan Drainage Solutions, an A+ BBB-rated firm. It is the part most deck crews skip, and it is the reason our builds hold.
